ANIMATION FRAMES
FROM “THE PEASANTS”
“The Peasants” is an animated feature film created using traditional oil painting techniques. I initially worked as an oil-painting animator at the beginning of the painting process before transitioning to the VFX department, where I primarily focused on background design.
Director: DK Welchman, Hugh Welchman.
Cast: Kamila Urzedowska, Robert Gulaczyk, Miroslaw Baka, Sonia Mietielica, Ewa Kasprzyk, Andrzej Konopka, Cezary Lukaszewicz, Dorota Stalinska, Sonia Bohosiewicz, Malgorzata Kozuchowska, Mateusz Rusin, Maciej Musial, Helena Korczycka, Anna Grzeszczak, Matt Malecki, Lech Dyblik, Cyprian Grabowski, Andrzej Mastalerz.
IMDb storyline description: “The Peasants tells the story of Jagna, a young woman determined to forge her own path within the confines of a late 19th century Polish village - a hotbed of gossip and on-going feuds, held together, rich and poor, by pride in their land, adherence to colorful traditions and deep-rooted patriarchy. When Jagna finds herself caught between the conflicting desires of the village's richest farmer, his eldest son, and other leading men of the community, her resistance puts her on a tragic collision course with the community around her.”

VIDEOS
I painted four shots for the film, which can be viewed below. The shot featuring the horse was painted against a blue background, as the final background was created by another artist.
SELECTED MOVIE FRAMES
I painted a total of 136 frames for the film, with 32 selected frames showcased below.
REFERENCES FOR OIL PAINTERS
I created three keyframe sets in Photoshop that served as references for oil painters. All of them were based on famous Polish paintings, and as additional guidance, I was provided with basic contours created by another animator (although I changed some of them).
The digital keyframes for the scene based on a painting by Józef Chełmoński “Dawn. The Kingdom of Birds”.

TRAINING ANIMATION AND KEYFRAMES
Key frames were painted as references for another painter-animator working on the shot and were not included in the final film. Training and test frames were created during the training and recruitment process.
